Jinjishan Tunnel, the most vital node of the Second Ring Road of Fuzhou (capital of Fujian Province), will be opened to traffic on September 16, 2015. This tunnel changes original bidirectional four lanes to eight lanes and it will largely break bottleneck sections.
The overall length of widening reconstruction project of Jinjishan Tunnel is 1.47 kilometers, total construction cost is about 290 million yuan.
The south hole of Jinjishan Tunnel was officially launched in October, 2013, from 9.25-meter wide to 16.5-meter wide (from single-hole two lanes to four lanes), and it was opened to traffic at the beginning of November, 2014. Later on, reconstruction of north hole was beginning.
This new north hole is about 576-meter long. Except for widening the hole itself, there is also a ramp with two lanes, 233-meter long. It is convenient for vehicles to go through Jinjishan Tunnel and then arrive at the direction of train station.
The terrain condition of north hole is quite complex and the point for explosion is limit, so it has implemented more than 300 explosions since December, 2014.
After this double-arc tunnel opening to traffic, the traffic condition of the Second Ring Road and Jinjishan Tunnel will be relieved, and it will be convenient for people’s life. In addition, afforestation work is under way, and it is predicted to be finished before the National Youth Games.
